Norm & Matt Marowitz

Nick has been working with my son Matt for over two years. Not only has Matt excelled in his first year of wrestling but in the spring, he finished the High School baseball season as the batting average, slugging average and on base percentage leader. He’d never had a better season. I attribute this to both Matt’s hard work and the great job Nick did with Matt. He was able to motivate him with the right amount “stick” and the right amount of “carrot”. His mix of routines, measurement of progress and feedback all formed the right balance in getting Matt excellent results in his improved strength and conditioning. Matt always looked forward to his workouts with Nick. He hopes to continue his baseball dreams in college next year and Nick most certainly has helped him get there.

Through working with Nick, I’ve become a strong and powerful woman. This is amazing because I’m now almost 54 years old and until recently, had always been sedentary. I never had any real interest in exercise and when I tried, I just found it boring so I never stuck with it. But with Nick, I look forward to my training sessions twice a week. He inspires me to be the best possible physical me.

Nick doesn’t just work with people like himself, buff athletes who have always looked spectacular and who have always been into fitness. He is a skilled trainer and able to work with all kinds of people: athletes, but also people like me, a woman who wants to become stronger and more fit in my middle age so that I’ll be mobile and healthy in my 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Together, Nick and I set some intense 2016 fitness and strength goals for me. With his expertise and support, I'm excited to achieve them this year.

I often want to know the “why” of every exercise I do and so I ask Nick about which muscle is being worked and what the benefit of the exercise is. He always knows the answer and enjoys sharing his knowledge with me. In fact, one thing that impresses me about Nick is how much he loves his work. He’s at BSC every day by 5:30 a.m. and is always happy to be there. He told me that he enjoys getting up because he’s going to a job he loves that helps people improve their lives. Personal training isn’t just a job for Nick; it’s his passion.

One day last summer I brought my 17-year old daughter to a personal training session with me. Nick, on the spot, devised a session that the two of us could do together that day – even though we were at two very different levels of fitness and differed in age by over 35 years. She still talks about that being the most fun she’s ever had exercising. This summer, we’re going to take one of Nick’s twice-weekly small-group conditioning classes together and I can’t wait to do that with her.

Another advantage of working with Nick is that he’s a nutrition expert who can tailor a person’s diet to fit their individual needs. He doesn’t just say something simplistic (and uninformed) like, “Calories in, calories out.” Since working with Nick, I've lost weight and grown in strength - upper body, lower body, and core. He's developed a program specific to my fitness needs and he always pushes me to excel.

Here’s an example of that. One day I came to my training session feeling bummed about something going on at work. Nick knows me well by now and so he decided to help me break some personal records to cheer me up and, most importantly, to give me confidence in myself. That day, with him cheering me on, showing me the correct forms, making small adjustments to my form, and always encouraging me to “breathe!” I busted through my previous personal records for benchpress, deadlift, and sled pushing. I’d come in feeling dejected and I left exhilarated and feeling like the Powerful Woman I’ve come.

Once I told Nick that I liked how strong I’d become. He said, ”Strong? You’re powerful!” And that’s how I think of myself now – as a Powerful Woman.

Thank you, Nick!

Nick is a knowledgeable, inspiring, caring and attentive trainer. He convinced me to get off that treadmill and learn how to lift weights (progressive overload) and I will forever be grateful to him for doing so. In the two years I’ve been training with him I’ve gotten stronger, faster and smarter. I’m in the best shape of my life and I have Nick to thank for that!
